2015 Spring Rapids (Final Event)
Congratulations to John Lukezich who won our Spring Rapid Tournament with 5/6 points.
Congratulations also to Alex Chan and Euan Hughes, who tied for second place with 4 ½ points.
This was our final event of the 2014-2015 season.

2015 Eastern Ontario Student Chess Results
The 2015 EASTERN ONTARIO YOUTH CHESS TOURNAMENT, was held on Sunday April 12th at H.M.C.S. Cataraqui, the Naval Reserve training building in Kingston.
The tournament attracted 110 students, from the Kingston – Belleville - Ottawa area.

The number of medal winners depended in part on the number of entries in each Grade.
The Gold and Silver medalists normally go on to compete in the ONTARIO CHESS CHALLENGE, which will be held in Toronto on Sunday April 19th. - The Provincial Champion in each Grade then plays in the CANADIAN CHESS CHALLENGE, which will be held in Quebec City, at the end of May.
The tournament was organized by KINGSTON SCHOOLS CHESS, which is most grateful for the assistance given by HMCS CATARAQUI, Tim Hortons, many teachers and parents, and by volunteers from the KINGSTON CHESS CLUB who share their love of the game with younger players at this annual event.

2015 Eastern Ontario Youth Chess Tournament
EASTERN ONTARIO YOUTH CHESS TOURNAMENT

Sunday April 12th 2015 at HMCS CATARAQUI, Kingston.
This tournament is open to all students in Grades 1 to 12 who know how to play chess.
- Students in Grades 1 to 8 play against other students in the same Grade.
- Students in Grades 9 to 12 will be combined in a single section.
- All students play at least 5 games.
DIRECTIONS: HMCS Cataraqui is just east of the LaSalle Causeway. From Highway 2, turn North at the RMC / Fort Henry traffic lights, and follow Navy Way around behind Constantine Arena and the Sports Centre to HMCS Cataraqui. HMCS Cataraqui is also very close to Sunday bus route 12.
REGISTRATION for all Grades and payment of fee, ($10.00): 10:15 to 10:45 a.m. - Advance registration is not required.
Players briefing: 11:00 a.m. - All students then play 5 games.
All games will be played in the gymnasium. - There will be space for parents and guardians to sit around the edge of the gym, (or outside if the weather’s suitable.) Spectators should bring their own chairs.
LUNCH: There will be a break for lunch after Round 2. Food and drinks can be purchased at HMCS Cataraqui.
Different Grades will finish their fifth game at different times, but not before 2.30 p.m.Please note: students will only be supervised while they are playing chess.
Top-scoring players may be required to play additional, play-off games, to determine qualifiers for the ONTARIO CHESS CHALLENGE, to be held in Toronto on Sunday April 19th. - We can send 1 student in Grades with up to 10 players in this tournament; 2 students in Grades with 11 to 20 players; 3 students from Grades with 21 to 30 players; and 4 students from Grades with over 30 players. (The Provincial Champion in each Grade then plays in the CANADIAN CHESS CHALLENGE, in Quebec City at the end of May.)
AWARDS CEREMONY - Approximately 4:30 p.m. Medals will be presented to the top students in each Grade, once the play-off games have finished.
RATING: A numerical rating will be calculated for each player, so that they can compare their level of play, to that of other students across Canada. - These ratings will be posted on the Chess’n Math Association website at:
http://www.chess-math.org/ 2015eocc/ approximately one week after the tournament.
ENTRY FEE: $10.00 per student, payable in cash, or by cheque made out to "Chess'n Math Association".
EQUIPMENT: Students should bring their own pieces, if they are not fragile. Boards will be provided. (Some sets can be borrowed at the Tournament).
HELP WANTED: to set up the gym on Sunday morning April 12th. This will begin at9.00a.m. - Coffee and donuts will be provided.
SCORERS WANTED: The more scorers we have, the smoother the Tournament runs! No knowledge of chess or previous experience is necessary for scorers. - There will be a meeting to brief scorers at HMCS CATARAQUI before the tournament, at 9.30a.m. on April 12th .
